“Single truss” and “double truss” describe part of a fabric shelter’s frame configuration, but they do not provide a complete structural rating. Buyers still need the exact model drawings, spacing, bracing, connections, cover, anchors and site-specific requirements.

What the terms describe
A single-truss shelter uses one primary truss/arch assembly at each frame line. A double-truss shelter uses a paired or built-up frame arrangement according to that manufacturer’s design. Connection plates, bracing, purlins, steel sections and spacing vary between models.
Because manufacturers use different geometries and materials, two shelters carrying the same label are not necessarily equivalent.

Use and access can decide before structure
A smaller double-truss shelter is not automatically more useful than a larger single-truss model, or vice versa. Draw the stored items and vehicle paths inside the usable envelope first.
- Required clear width for equipment turning or material rows
- Door opening for trucks, loaders, farm machinery or containers
- Clear height near sidewalls, not only at the roof peak
- Need for interior work areas, aisles or future racking
- Fire access and egress requirements
- Potential future expansion and whether the system permits it
Frame spacing and cover are separate decisions

A heavier cover does not compensate for an unverified frame, anchor or foundation. Likewise, a heavier-looking frame does not establish cover life or fire documentation.

Is double truss always stronger than single truss?
The label alone is not a capacity statement. Compare model-specific geometry, materials, spacing, connections, bracing, anchors, foundation and documented loads.
When is a single-truss shelter appropriate?
It can suit a smaller span or moderate storage application when the exact model, site, foundation and documented requirements are appropriate.
When should I consider double truss?
Consider it when larger spans, building sizes or the manufacturer’s documented application point to a paired/heavier frame system, subject to site and engineering review.
Does closer arch spacing guarantee a higher snow rating?
No. Spacing is only one part of the system. Use the exact documented rating/design information for the complete model and installation.
Can I upgrade only the cover to make a shelter stronger?
A cover change does not upgrade the verified structural capacity of the frame, connections, anchors or foundation. Any configuration change needs manufacturer/engineering confirmation.
Which configuration is easier to install?
It depends on size, component weight, assembly sequence, site and available lifting equipment. Large double-truss systems usually require a more developed installation plan.
Can the same foundation be used for either type?
Not automatically. Reactions and connection details differ. The foundation and anchors must match the exact approved shelter configuration and site.
